ACCOMMODATION TIPS

Finding a place to live in a new city is one of the most exciting yet challenging parts of preparing for your exchange. To make your transition to Istanbul as smooth and safe as possible, we have gathered some essential tips and resources for you!

1. Reach Out to Former Exchange Students First!!!

Before you start your search, try to contact students from your home university who have previously been on exchange in Istanbul or at ITU. They are your best resource for first-hand advice on neighborhoods, realistic rental prices, and overall experiences in the city.

2. Join Our ITU Erasmus Students Housing Network Facebook Group

We run a dedicated housing group to help you connect directly with housemates and landlords: https://www.facebook.com/groups/153908324757441

!!! CRUCIAL SAFETY & Payment Tips (Avoid Scams!) !!!
Finding accommodation online requires caution. Protect yourself by following these safety rules:

Never Send Money Unseen: Do not send any deposit, prepayment, or reservation fee before seeing the flat in person or, at the very least, having a live video call with the landlord/tenant showing you the actual rooms.

Verify the Details: Ensure you get a finalized, net price that explicitly details what is included (utilities, internet, etc.).

Trust Your Gut: If a deal looks too good to be true (e.g., an incredibly cheap luxury flat in a prime location), it is highly likely a scam.

Disclaimer:
While we do our best to moderate the group and keep it transparent, ESN ITU does not take any legal or financial responsibility for the listings shared on our platform or any external agreements you make. This is a student support platform designed to help you connect.

Have a great and safe exchange journey in Istanbul!
